Date:28-30 October 2004 (main event on 30 October 2004) Place: Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany. (Annaberg-Buchholz lies in a delightful surrounding area and is not far away from Dresden and Prague.) Schedule and rules: The World Cup will take place in the morning of 30 October, where each mental calculator will have to solve tasks in six categories (addition of ten 10-digit numbers, multiplication of two 8-digit numbers, extracting the square root from a 6-digit number, calculating the day of the week and two tasks of surprise). There are several prizes for the best participants. The overall winner will be awarded the title "World Cup winner for mental calculation". On the evening of 30 October a show will take place where the winners will be honoured and public competitions and record attempts will be performed. All the competitions are about straight mental calculation without any aid. Registrations from calculation experts using the Abacus / Soroban are welcome either. In case there are sufficient registrations for this category, there will be an additional competition where the use of these aids is permitted. Prizes: Prizes will be awarded for the best participants in the total competition as well as in the single categories (except the tasks of surprise). Further prizes may be offered for successful record attempts during the evening show and for the best challengers. The winners will receive a certification, which attests the title "World Cup Winner". Successful record attempts will be kept as world record. Organizer: City of Annaberg-Buchholz in association with the Adam-Ries-Bund e.V. and the Rekord-Klub SAXONIA. Source: http://www.recordholders.org/ |
